Cutting through

Gabriel's first tooth cut through today!

We went upstairs when he woke up around 2 p.m, I held him over the bathroom sink (we practice EC) so he can do his after-nap-business (which he did! Good boy!!) and I put the diaper back on him. I washed my hands while he was trying to fit both fists in his mouth with such ferociousness, I decided to take a look just to make sure there are no teeth in sight. What a surprise it was when I saw the wavy hard surface cutting through a reddened gum (bottom left)! My dear Little Dove! In such a hurry to grow up.

How can one be so excited over such a little thing while feeling endless sadness for the no longer bare baby gums?
I was doing my best at ignoring the signals - constant drooling, chewing fingers and even a feeling of warmer to the touch skin. He is only 4 months old so I thought he is immune to have his teeth so early. His big sister got her first tooth at 7 1/2 months. He has been such a brave little boy - no other change in behavior besides the mentioned above.
In the late afternoon he got fussier than normal but I took him for a walk around the block and he was content again.

Happy first tooth, Little Dove! We love you!
